One Million Pieces of Trash Programs Director Larry Fukuhara is a on a mission to pick up one million pieces of trash! The Aquarium is surrounded by Cabrillo Coastal Park, which includes Salinas de San Pedro Salt Marsh, a native garden, Inner Cabrillo Beach, Outer Cabrillo Beach and the Point Fermin Tidepools. These areas are popular destinations for outdoor recreation and unfortunately visitors leave behind trash. “My goal is to make a difference by picking up trash whenever possible before it reaches the ocean and harms marine life,” said Fukuhara. “So I decided to launch ‘Larry’s Coastal Park One Million Pieces of Trash Campaign.’ I invite Aquarium guests to participate and help keep our coastal ocean clean; let’s make picking up litter the new cool beach activity.” Guests can check out buckets and trash picker uppers at the Information Booth. Then head out to Cabrillo Coastal Park and spend a few minutes or longer picking up trash, your actions will inspire others to do the same. When you’re done, bring the equipment back to the Aquarium and your trash count will be added to the running total. So far Larry, with the help of others, has picked up 18,829 pieces; help him get to one million! Post Date: Monday, November 03, 2014 Share
