Landscape Development, Inc. was founded in 1982 with the goal of delivering the highest quality landscape services to the California market. Its President, Gary Horton, began his personal involvement in the landscaping industry as early as 1966. Like the sons of may families of the time, Gary was assigned yard care duties for the family home. The family struggled financially, and with scarce extra money, Gary soon realized the benefit of expanding his gardening work from just his own home to caring for other homes around the neighborhood. So, from age eleven through twenty-two, Gary learned and performed landscape maintenance. Gary's firsthand experience in landscaping and in business has helped to create and maintain a continuing company culture: that which emphasizes a hands-on approach, delivers superior quality at all times, and generates fierce loyalty.

At age twenty-two, Gary joined Mark Randle as a partner in Mark's firm, Green Giant Landscape. Two years later, Mark Randle moved on to other interests and Gary continued on in the landscape industry, obtaining his own license and founding Landscape Development, Inc. By this time, Gary was well on his way towards completion of the first of his two degrees in business management. From the start, Landscape Development would be something introducing a fusion of innovative technology and venerable business practice to the relatively unsophisticated landscape industry of that day.

Gary defined the target market for the company as the California development and residential community. While this remains the focus, Landscape Development, Inc. has evolved to meet the demands of an ever-changing market. In the early days, the company primarily provided model home and production yard construction. Within the first few years of operation, landscape maintenance services were added. Soon thereafter, a “green” and forward-thinking earth services division was added to the company's portfolio of services.

Seeking to create a synergistic relationship between artistry and craftsmanship, Landscape Development, Inc. assembled one of the finest design teams in the industry for its design-build division—a service that provides clients with a seamless, streamlined process from initial vision to actual installation. This creative team has also expanded its offerings to private homeowners through our Custom Gardens Division, designing and building individualized sanctuaries that reflect unique personal tastes and aesthetics.

Today, over thirty years since its founding, Landscape Development, Inc. remains California's premier full-service landscape firm. The company fills all of its clients site needs, from landscape architecture, design-build, landscape construction, maintenance, erosion control, and environmental mitigation.

Landscape Development, Inc. operates its corporate office in Valencia, CA, and divisional offices in Kern County, Inland Empire, San Diego, and the California Central Coast. The firm supplies its full range of expectation-exceeding services from Sacramento to San Diego.

Through the difficult economic climate of 2006 – 2011, Landscape Development, Inc. has grown in capabilities, quality, customer care, and product offerings. True to its founding roots, the company continues making “raving fans” of all its customers, and embraces a deep commitment to continuous improvement to all that we do.
