Arizona Unites for 13th Annual Drowning impact Awareness Month – Statewide Purple Ribbon Campaign Highlights Increased Child Drowning Risks in August. When a child drowns, the devastation is widespread, long-term and deeply felt. But, drownings are preventable and families can take steps to protect their children. Recognizing the impact of drownings and teaching families to reduce risk is the purpose of the Drowning impact Awareness Month Campaign. Arizona is always ranked one of the top four states in the nation for child drownings. The combination of sweltering heat and back-to-school distractions make August a high-risk time for child drownings to occur. In the first 7 months of 2016, Pima County has already had 8 water-related incidents, 7 involving children and 3 fatalities. Formal proclamations signed by Governor Ducey and Mayors across the State support the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona. You can wear a purple ribbon to show your support for the campaign during the month of August. Please check our website for more information regarding a Water Safety Expo scheduled for August 27th and the Fry's Rewards Program.

Avra Valley Fire District will be offering a CPR class on Friday, August 12. Please visit our website for registration information.
