Community happening - PACC 7th Annual Gala

ACC departing president's message: Dear ACC Members, Thanks to all our great Arab American Community members for your service, donations, and volunteering at the ACC over the past two years. Community activity is vital to sustaining the growth of the Center and the continued success of its mission. Our achievements are due - in no small part - to our great community here in Houston and beyond. During the last two years, we have expanded our material donations to refugees from our background such as furniture and household items drive, Gifts of Love to Families and Kids, personal mentoring for individual families (VIA program), referrals to other organizations, and setting up our English Language School to train those who lack basic language skills. We expanded the ACC Scholarship Program to include 8 applicants this year, with the top 2 applicants receiving $ 2,000 each, and the remaining six receiving $ 1,000 each. Our Arabic School for children, adolescents and adults has continued to expand its enrollment to around 65 students this year. We have increased our advocacy and community outreach efforts through voter registration events. We arranged numerous cultural events, picnics, Arab Countries regional celebration, other social activities in our Center, and participated in diverse community events arranged by Collaborative organizations. It has been my honor to lead the Center during this period of impressive growth, following a community-wide “debt elimination campaign” in 2014; collecting $350,000 from the community; equally matched by a generous grant from Mr. Farouk Shami- thus paying off all outstanding mortgage on the ACC property, At its monthly meeting held last week, the Board elected a new Executive Committee to lead the ACC and direct its mission throughout 2017- 2018.. I’m pleased to announce the election of the following people to the Committee: Dr. Faiza Zalila- President Mr. Wadih ElHajj-Vice President Mr. Abdel Elkhadiri- Treasurer Mr. Zak Patel Esq.- Secretary. Earlier in 2016, the following members were elected to serve two-year terms on the Board: Dr. Rania Elkhatib Mrs. Sihem Idrissou Mrs. Luna Madi Mrs. Hadia Mawlawi Mr. Nabil Abraham As we look forward to a bright 2017 for the ACC and our community, I am confident that through the vision and commitment of our new President and the Board of Directors, we can look forward to further growth and achievements for the ACC, and as a result more participation from the Community at large Gratefully yours, Kamal G. Khalil MD ACC President 2015-2016
