Quick action taken by Aisin team members extinguish minor plant fire, prevent injuries. Statement from Simon Mortimer, HR Manager, Aisin Automotive Casting, LLC, London, Kentucky: On Sunday, March 19, 2017, at approximately 1:20 am, a small fire was reported by second shift team members at Plant 2 of Aisin Automotive Casting, LLC (AAC) in London, Kentucky. There were no injuries. The fire was caused when plastic material entered a melting furnace which in turn caught fire immediately. Team members quickly used fire extinguishers to control the situation, while local fire departments were alerted. The situation was managed adeptly by team members and fire fighters, and normal plant operations resumed in less than one hour once the fire was confirmed extinguished. Countermeasures are being put in place to prevent any foreign matter from entering the area that houses the melting furnace. I’d like to thank the Lily and London Fire Departments, which responded quickly, and professionally, as well as our own AAC team members who, through quick, deliberate action, managed the situation accordingly. I’m very proud of our team members, all of whom are safety trained and knew exactly how to act in this situation. Their quick response ensured that there were no injuries or significant equipment damage during this incident. AAC was founded in 1996 and is a brand leader of engine-related, functional parts and die cast parts that are essential to vehicle function and reliability. The two-plant complex has received numerous quality and safety awards, as well as ISO quality certifications. Currently, approximately 900 team members are employed at AAC. Submitted March 20, 2017
