FOND FAREWELL TO LAURA. Staff and volunteers of the historical society gathered on August 11, 2017 to wish Laura Tom (plaid dress, center), longtime Museum Store assistant, good luck in future ventures. Laura is leaving to spend more time on her jewelry-making and other pursuits. From left to right, Laurel Ormond, Scott Sherwood, Mary Clark Ormond, Laura Tom and John Jaros. OH NO! Chicagoland's premier folk festival is cancelled this year! The 41st Annual Fox Valley Folk Music & Storytelling Festival, September 3 and 4, 2017, had to be cancelled due to the flood damage on Island Park in Geneva. Two-thirds of the park is not usable and they could not find another venue able to support 8 stages and thousands of visitors, with all the infrastructure that requires. They are still trying to do the WFMT radio show Saturday night at the Geneva Unitarian Church, and privately-sponsored house concerts will go on. Terrible news for folkies.
