Each year Landmarks Awards program calls attention to significant preservation efforts in the city.
Recognizing the special challenges of maintaining historic homes and buildings, we appreciate the efforts of homeowners to take that extra step in caring for their historic properties. The whole city benefits to see these beautiful homes, lining our neighborhood streets, looking their best.
Restoration Award: Given to a person, organization or business in New London who restores their property with historic preservation principles. The building is given a special "whale plaque."
Clifford Stone Award: Given to a person dedicated to Preservation. The Clifford Stone Award is named for a young New Londoner who wrote a moving book about growing up in the city during the days of Urban Renewal when he witnessed the demolition of vast areas of the city he loved. The Great Sunflower is a moving tribute to the city and our Clifford Stone Award is a tribute to this young man who died too early.
Volunteer Award: All non profit organizations rely on their volunteers for a wide range of projects that simply cannot be done without this assistance.
