Congregational Methodist Church

Throughout my years as a pastor, people have asked me, “What is a ‘Congregational Methodist?’”

Historically, the Congregational Methodist Church was born in 1852 out of a necessity to meet the spiritual needs of people represented by this Body. The commitment was to the Wesleyan message of salvation in Christ and heart holiness by the Spirit’s power while providing a structure of government that allowed for the people of the Church to be represented in our decision making process. We are grateful for our Wesleyan heritage.

As we look to the future, I am excited about our prospects. When I think of the question, “Who is the CMC?”, I believe much of who we are can be summed up with the letters —Community, Mission, Compelling Vision!

Community! We believe that part of the beauty of living in union with Christ is the Community we enjoy as His people. With Christ’s love in us, we strive to develop community among our churches as we seek to serve our Beloved Friend together! We believe in the privilege of Community with God and each other (John 17:21).

Mission! We believe in the Great Commission. We have heard Christ’s command to go into the entire world and preach the Gospel (Good News) of our Savior and King! (Mark 16:15). We exist to promote that message and reach the world for Christ.

Compelling Vision! We believe in a Christ who is infinitely greater than our present circumstances. We believe in the One who has called us and is able to complete His work in us (2 Timothy 1:12). “The path ahead of you is never greater than the power behind you.” God is faithful. He has called us to “great and mighty things” which we can only imagine (Jeremiah 33:3). We are trusting Him to enable us to accomplish what He has set before us.
