Centers for Independent Living (CILs) are community-based, not-for-profit organizations operated by and for individuals with disabilities. Freedom Valley Disability Center began as a satellite of the Philadelphia CIL in 1986. In 1993, it became a freestanding CIL, serving persons with disabilities in the four suburban counties. Now serving Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties, it provides the four Core Independent Living Services: Information and Referral (I&R), Peer-Support Counseling, Independent Living Skills Training and Advocacy.
