Assumma-Shankey Funeral Home notes with great sadness the passing of Eileen Gerz. Eileen H. Gerz of Valley Cottage, NY died Monday, March 27, 2017 at Dowling Gardens in Sparkhill, NY. She was 96. Eileen was born on March 8, 1921 in the Bronx, NY to Charles and Grace Quinn; the youngest of three children. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Lyman and her husband Larry of Nanuet. She has four Grand Children: Maureen Damon, Jeanne Cooper, Christopher Lyman and Carolyn Lyman, and seven Great Grand Children; Brayden and Devin Cooper, Amanda, Kimberly and Kayla Damon and Erin and Kevin Lyman. She had been a parishioner of St. Paul’s church in Congers, NY for 50 years where she taught CCD and tutored disabled children in religion. Her career included accounting and working in research in hypertension at Cornell Medical Center in New York City. She loved reading, listening to classical music and visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She actively participated in the Congers II Senior Group. She also enjoyed traveling within the United States, countries in Europe and Caribbean Cruises. Visiting is Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 3pm to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Paul’s church in Congers, NY, Friday at 10am. Burial will be at the Gethsemane Cemetery in Congers, NY.

Patricia Miller, 74,of Pearl River, NY entered into rest March 21, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Born March 7, 1943 to the late John and Sophie Mudrick. Surived by her loving husband of 53 years, Daniel, 4 devoted daughters; Karen Miller, Dawn MorganBrenda Maul, Laurie Guarneri, 9 adoring grandchildren and siblings; Dolores Rudinski, Carol Gurda, Joyce Rommel and Richard Mudrick Patricia enjoyed loving and spending time with her grandchildren. Visiting is 2-4pm aqnd 7-9pm, Sunday at Assumma-Shankey Funeral Home. Catherine “Kitty” Trainor, of Chestnut Ridge, NY, died peacefully March 15, 2017. Born in Ballyglass, The Neale, County Mayo, Ireland on August 22, 1928 to Patrick and Mary Kate (O’Shaughnessy) Farragher. Kitty was a founding member of The Rockland County Irish Cultural Center, and served as the Rockland County Coordinator for Project Children. A faithful parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church, and a member of Rosary Altar Society. Kitty worked and retired from Good Samaritan Hospital as a nurse. Devoted mother of Maureen Trainor, Anne (Thomas) Coyne, and Maggie Trainor, loving grandmother of Kathleen Coyne. Caring aunt to many nieces and nephews. Recently predeceased by her sister, Sister Mary Farragher “Gretta” and brother Rev. Sean Farragher. Visiting is Monday, March 20, 2017 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Assumma-Shankey Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at St. Margaret’s Church at 10am. Robert Stephen Devine, formerly of Pearl River, NY, passed away on March 13, 2017, at Westchester Medical Center after a valiant battle with brain cancer . Robert was born March 7, 1952 to the late Vincent and Helen Devine and moved to Pearl River, NY as a young child. He attended Pearl River Schools and graduated from Stevens Institute with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked locally for a number of years at Ciba-Geigy. In recent years he resided in Scranton, PA and the west coast where he worked as a day trader. He is survived by his sister, Ann Devine Farrell ( James) of Pearl River, NY, his brother James Devine of Otisville, NY, his niece, Elizabeth Dunnigan and nephew Joseph Farrell of Pearl River, NY, nephews, Padraic and Dennis Devine of Otisville, NY and Kevin Devine of California, as well as many great nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 20, 2017, 10 am at St. Aedans Roman Catholic Church in Pearl River, NY, burial to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation in Roberts name may be made to the charity of your choice.

Steve (Stamatios) Venetos, age 49, lost his courageous battle against leukemia on March 3, 2017 at the Joe Raso Hospice Residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 20, 1967 at Bronx Lebanon Hospital to surviving beloved parents, Peggy and John Venetos. Although Steve worked in the food service industry and later as a security guard, he could have been the most amazing sports announcer that ever lived. A fanatical Jets fan, he had endless knowledge of sports statistics, memorizing and reciting details no one else could remember without the assistance of Google. He touched the lives of everyone he met with his exceptional kindness and gentle heart. He was a selfless soul, even throughout his illness, always putting the welfare of others first, especially that of his treasured daughter, Patia Venetos, who is 14 years old and a student at Albertus Magnus High School. He is also survived by his devoted siblings, sisters Kelly Maris and Debbie Leakas and brother George Venetos and a tremendous big fat Greek family that will never forget him. Family and friends may send memorial donations in Steve's memory to the custodial college fund set up for his daughter Patia Venetos, directly to the funeral home at Assumma-Shankey 34 North Summit Street, Pearl River, NY 10965. Visiting hours will be Sunday March 5th from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral service to be held Monday, March 6th, 11:00 am at Sts.
