Does God take sin seriously? King Belshazzar, successor to the throne of Babylon, learned this the hard way. He became a prime Biblical example of the consequence of sin and the ensuing dramatic and just judgment of God. The grandson of King Nebuchadnezzar, King Belshazzar inherited power and wealth, but disregarded his grandfather’s acknowledgement of the one true God. In the fifth chapter of Daniel, we see the king engaged in a drunken banquet with his wives, mistresses and a thousand of his nobles. The king’s sin was heightened by the company drinking out of sacred goblets taken from the temple in Jerusalem and using those holy vessels to praise false gods. Suddenly, the king and company see a disembodied hand writing words on the wall that no one could understand. After his counselors failed to interpret, the queen urged the king to send for Daniel. Daniel rejected the rewards offered him by the king, reminded the king of what had happened with Nebuchadnezzar and reprimanded Belshazzar for his sin. Daniel interpreted the writing on the wall, telling the king that his days were numbered and his life had been weighed and found wanting, and prophesied that Belshazzar’s kingdom would be given to the Medes and Persians. God’s judgment became reality with the king’s death that night and the throne going to Darius of the Medo-Persian empire. Does God take sin seriously? Listen as Pastor D.J. walks through the fifth chapter of Daniel and discusses the ways in which God judges sin today, offering encouragement for those who have trusted Christ with their lives. https://livestream.com/churchatthemill/events/6843668/videos/149891187
