The Opera House opened in 1884, when Grand Ledge was a thriving resort community. The Structure at 121 South Bridge Street first was Riverside Roller Skating Rink. Later, it became Blake's Opera House, a home to traveling theatrical troupes, community athletic events and gatherings. In 1909 the building became Sackett's Opera House, then, briefly, a movie theater. In the late 1920's it was converted to a furniture store. In the 1980's it was donated to the Grand Ledge Area Hisorical Society by the Mapes family of Sunfield. The restoration was a joint effort of the Grand Ledge Area Historical Society and the Grand Ledge Area Chamber of Commerce. Presently it is available for wedding ceremonies and receptions, parties, meetings, conferences and musical performances.
