I spy Fr. Bob helping raise money at Ascension's 60th annual Mission Day!

A day late! Yesterday, the Church celebrated the Presentation in the Temple. You can see this window in the south entrance nearest the courtyard. When Ascension was dedicated, this area was the baptistry. You will notice that there is a set of doors to set it off from the church (there are not doors at the north entrance) and you can see the spot on the floor where the baptismal font was originally placed.

Preparing for this coming weekend's homily I found my way to the first encyclical of Pope John XXIII, written in 1959 and called "On Truth, Unity and Peace in a Spirit of Charity." It seemed apropos to this Sunday's second reading, as well as to the events of this week, and I'd recommend reading it- only twenty pages or so (short for a papal encyclical, at least by today's standards!) - Fr Hurlbert http://w2.vatican.va/content/john-xxiii/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_j-xxiii_enc_29061959_ad-petri.html
Encyclical, Ad Petri Cathedram, John XXIII, church, papal primacy, magisterium, persecution, martyr, local church, Christian values, report between Church and State, Jubilee, Vatican City State, Ad Petri Cathedram, John XXIII
