Our arena was established in the early 1980's by the City of Newark Parks and Recreation as an outdoor ice rink. In the 1990's, Terry Frame, the then Director for the City of Newark Parks and Recreation Department, enclosed the rink to extend the ice skating venue. In June 2005 the Newark City Council approved the Newark Ice Arena Renovation Project. Under advise of Jack Vivian, a respected ice industry veteran and area resident, the Newark Sport and Event Commission completed the Renovation Project in six months. The Renovation was the result of $ million of cash and in-kind donations as well as a great deal of volunteer and professional labor. In December of 2006 the Newark Ice Arena was renamed "Lou & Gib Reese Ice Arena" as a token of thanks to the Reese family for their generous donation to the project. The Lou & Gib Reese Ice Arena is a multi-use and multi-season facility that our community can be proud of.
