One of the units of the world-wide Order of Friars Minor or "Lesser Brothers" (OFM), founded by St. Francis of Assisi in 1209, Holy Name Province continues the 800-year heritage by bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ into the everyday experiences of people today through preaching, teaching, pastoral leadership and compassionate service.
As a Catholic fraternity of both lay friars (commonly called "Brother") and ordained friars (priests), we collaborate with those whom we serve and stand in solidarity with all people, especially the alienated, the immigrant and the poor.
Our more than 300 members minister in colleges, urban ministry centers, parishes, overseas missions and a wide variety of social services, reaching out to the very poor in our society. Following the popular spirit of St. Francis, we try to meet people where they are and respond to the needs of the least of the Lord's brothers and sisters.
Holy Name, headquartered in Midtown Manhattan, is one of seven provinces that belong to the 800-year-old Order of Friars Minor. Founded in 1901, our Province has 30+ ministry sites (parishes, schools, soup kitchens, retreat centers) in 9 states.
