Searching for some fun during Spring Break? Check out our activities for this week! Watch a Movie: Monday-Friday at at the top of every hour starting at 10:00 am - 3:00 pm 3/27-4/1: Planet Earth - Pole to Pole Creature Feature: Mondays & Wednesdays at 3:30 pm-4:00 pm Come learn about Alabama’s woods, water, and wildlife. Get up close and personal with some of the creatures you may find in your own backyard, and even some you may have never even heard of! Naturalist-Led Hike: Tuesdays & Fridays at 11:00 am-Noon Hike some of Lanark’s 5 miles of trails with an experienced ANC naturalist by your side. Learn how to bird or ID plants and animals, splash through the creek, or catch insects in the meadow! Early Explorers: "A Very Hungry Caterpillar" Thursday, 3/30 Storytime: “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle Activity: “Signs of Spring” light hike Craft: Hand Print Caterpillar (image attached) *Parents will need to assist* Early Explorers is a preschool program that ANC offers to the public monthly as well as by appointment for private groups. _______________________________________________________________ Saturday programs are from 9:00am-5:00pm. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the first of the day’s activities. Take a look around the the Discovery Hall, enjoy the movie specials in the theater, and explore the trails. Gift shop will be open. Upper Pond is open for catch & release fishing every Saturday (9:00-5:00) See Fishing Rules: Saturday Program: Tour of Lanark Hike Hike some of Lanark’s 5 miles of trails with an experienced ANC naturalist by your side. ​Saturday programs are from 9:00 am-4:00pm. Guests encouraged to arrive by10:00am to enjoy the first of the day’s activities. Take a look around the hands-on Discovery Hall, enjoy the movie specials in the theater, and explore the trails. In honor of Gopher Tortoise Day on April 10, we will be celebrating on April 8th in conjunction with our annual Flora & Fauna Arts Festival. Special activities will take place from 11:00am-2:00pm. We will have live animals as well as crafts and activities for children and adults alike. DID YOU KNOW: Male gopher tortoises will begin an attempt at courtship by bobbing their heads up and down repeatedly.

Madison County Wild Game Cook-Off - APRIL 11, 2017! Come experience backyard chefs at their best as they show off their culinary skills. Ample servings of great food are always featured, including entrees such as venison, duck, dove, pheasant and much more! In addition to all the outstanding food, a major highlight of the cook-off will be a silent auction and live music. FISHING Volunteers Needed!!! The Alabama Wildlife Federation is offering volunteer opportunities in conjunction with the Alabama Nature Center located in Millbrook, Alabama. We are currently seeking quality people to join our “Fishing Team.” The ideal candidate must have a basic knowledge of fishing and enjoy working with youth in a beautiful outdoor environment. “Fishing Team” volunteers need to have a flexible schedule with availability Monday-Friday between 8am-1:00pm. Energetic, enthusiastic, dependable, and cordial individuals who fit this description are encouraged to apply. You will be asked to fill out a written application and be willing to authorize a background check. DUTIES TO INCLUDE: Fishing tackle preparation, upkeep and organization, fishing assistance such as casting instruction, baiting hooks, releasing caught fish, and fishing event set-up and breakdown.
