It's spring! Spring is a great time to get personal stuff in order. Time to dust off the outside furniture, put the yard together and pull a few weeds. With the weather we have had this winter, I know I'm not the only with one with more than my fair share of weeds. I have found that weeding my yard is actually therapeutic and gets me to slow down and clear my mind. Gives me a bit of peace as well. Spring cleaning isn't just about the physical things that we need to do - sometimes it can be things that we are putting off...like getting the oil changed in the car, or making sure that all of our insurances are up to date. Not just that the policies are paid, but that you have the appropriate coverage in place for your needs. So since we're talking about weeds...we have to talk about planting seeds...and here's mine: May is Disability Awareness Month. Not that it takes a special month to get us thinking about a "what if" - but what if you were disabled? Maybe through an unfortunate accident or disease (like any accident is fortunate...haha!). A new survey says that the average American has less than $1,000 in savings. $1,000 doesn't take you very far if you become disabled when you suddenly lose your paycheck - either temporarily or permanently. Already have a disability policy? Maybe it's time to look at a cancer plan, accident, or hospitalization plan. While I am not going to pull weeds for you, or take your car to the shop, I can help secure your paycheck. Give yourself a little peace of mind should you teeter a little too far on the top rung of a ladder or trip over your own rake (which I have done both this past week). Glad I am covered. Until next month, "Silly people, serious about insurance." Grace Who sometimes likes pulling weeds more than planting seeds.

My Crystal Ball is broken. I checked the batteries, downloaded the latest version of the app, and even took it to the shop for repair. No one could seem to understand why it wasn't letting me know the future of the ACA. For specifics, the ACA has now been named "AHCA" because we all can't agree on everything (or at times, anything). AHCA stands for the American Health Care Act. I think that pronouncing AHCA sounds like I am ready to sneeze and a "Bless You" will ensue "AHCA-Chooooo". Bless you. This is truly the most asked question: "What's going to happen to Obamacare?" This is where I refer back to my broken Crystal Ball. No one knows. As of today, the ACA/Obamacare/Your Plan are remaining intact and is still law of the land...well, until it isn't - truly is that easy. Right now anyway. Maybe I should look into my Lava Lamp instead of the Crystal Ball. At least my Lava Lamp is more accurate with bubbles that burst, stretches and never ending ups and downs. I have to apologize for missing several months of sending out newsletters. Truth is that life sometimes gets in the way (weddings, funerals, kitchen remodels and most importantly, Open Enrollment). It wasn't until a close friend and colleague told me that my newsletters were missed in her inbox. Sometimes it takes a little nudge (...or nag...you choose the wording) to get us back on the right track. Maybe all my Crystal Ball needs is a little nudge, too. Until next month, "Silly people, serious about insurance." Grace Who will forever miss my friend's replies to every eblast.

Mayo to give preference to privately insured patients over Medicaid patients. Pushback on Medicaid, Medicare part of a trend. Mayo Clinic’s chief executive made a startling announcement in a recent speech to employees: The Rochester-based health system will give preference to patients with private insurance over those with lower-paying Medicaid or Medicare coverage, if they seek care at the same time and have comparable conditions. http://www.acsinsurance.com/mayo-to-give-preference-to-privately-insured-patients-over-medicaid-patients/

Halloween is not one of my favorite holidays. Mainly because I was born in Reno and grew up in Carson City. If you've ever been to a Nevada Day Parade, you would understand the loyalty to the birthday of our great State. Sort of like when you hear folks pronounce Nevada incorrectly. I don't know about you, but I always feel the need to correct them on that one. They may have their shirt on backwards, spinach between their teeth or an axe murderer behind them - all will be overlooked if they draw out the "ah" in Nevada's pronunciation. I have always felt that Abe Lincoln could have waited at least one more day to make Nevada a State - that way, Nevada Natives like myself would probably celebrate Halloween a bit more. I also wouldn't make kids trick or treating say "Happy Nevada Day" when they come to my door. But alas, Abe probably wasn't thinking about Grace in 1864. What does this have to do with insurance? Uh, well, nothing. Wait. I have to talk about insurance to keep the Bossman Andy happy. How about this: If you have an axe murderer behind you, make sure that you have life insurance. I will let you know that he (or she, not to discriminate) is behind you, once your paperwork is completed. Happy Nevada Day and Happy Halloween (for you non-natives). Until next month, Grace Who hopes you have a great 3 day weekend! :)
