Jones & Phillips Associates, Inc. was founded in 1974 by Ted W. Jones and Van Phillips; in 1978, the firm was formally incorporated, establishing offices in both Lafayette and Bloomington, Indiana. Their extensive experience in theatrical architecture, lighting, and rigging consultation was well received by the architects who design buildings with the unique requirements of performance spaces. In 1995, Mr. Jones retired from the day-to-day activities of the firm, but remains active on a limited number of projects.

As potential donors to arts and entertainment facilities became more insistent on information showing the financial viability of a project, the demand for Linda. Phillips services increased. In 1995, as a member of the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM), Mrs. Phillips enrolled in the “IAAM Operations School”. This program provided the additional show information that allows Jones & Phillips Associates, Inc. to provide financial, operational and architectural consulting within our firm’s services.

Jones & Phillips has consulted on a wide variety of performing arts facilities. The firm’s past projects have ranged from training facilities to renovations of community arts centers to 7,500 seat professional theatres and 23,000 seat civic arenas. The staff now includes seven full-time and two part-time employees, with expertise in theatre programming, design and planning, management, architectural lighting, specialized equipment design, and television and broadcast facilities, as well as the more standard theatrical consulting service. The office is equipped with complete computer aided design and drawing ( ) systems.

Although Mr. Phillips retired form Purdue in May of 2001, he has continued his relationship with the University. The staff has also remained active as professional (scenic artists union) designers in the entertainment industry. It is the attitude of the partners that these activities help to keep them fresh and current on theatrical practice and performance expectations. The partners believe that it is their duty to help pass their experience and knowledge to the next generation of professionals through the universities. Under Mr. Phillips’s direction, Purdue University now offers the only program in the country leading to a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Planning and Consulting.

In the fall of 2001, Jones & Phillips relocated to new, larger offices in downtown Lafayette, Indiana. The additional space allows the firm to continue its growth both domestically and internationally, providing space for current and future personnel and projects.

In 2006, Mr. Christopher Purpura assumed the role of Senior Project Manager and Coordinator of Technical Specifications and Bid Documents.

Jones & Phillips Associates, Inc. are not architects or engineers, however, our services are designed around the assistance demanded by building professionals who are faced with the unique features of places of public assembly.
