Schuylkill County School Employees Credit Union was originally founded in 1953 to serve employees and the families of public and private school employees in Schuylkill County. The credit union has grown since that time, adding members in the education and health-care industries throughout the county. In January, 2000, the credit union approved a merger with Good Samaritan Hospital Credit Union to serve the employees of the hospital and their families. In 2007, the credit union approved a merger with Argo Federal Credit Union. In 2008, the credit union approved a merger with PFP Federal Credit Union. Also, in 2008, the membership of Schuylkill County School Employees Credit Union approved a name change to Hidden River Credit Union to better represent the growth of the credit union within the community. In May 2011, the credit union requested and was granted a community charter. Hidden River Credit Union is now open to anyone who lives, works, worships, volunteers, or attends school within Schuylkill County; and to business and other legal entities located therein. The credit union has grown to over $135 million in assets and now serves over 14,000 members. As the credit union continues to grow, those same core values the founders envisioned over 60 years ago remain the primary mission of HRCU.
