Here a few pictures from the July 5th Public Safety Youthful Leadership Academy that was hosted by Officer Olivia Shields and Officer Lee Zielinski at the Bay County Animal Control Shelter. There were 29 students and 4 public safety officers that attended. Their visit started with a movie teaching them how to approach dogs safely, followed by a tour of the building and Animal Control trucks where they became familiar with all the equipment, and the visit concluded with the kids taking adoptable dogs out into the runs, giving each dog a bath and socializing with the kittens. The event was a huge success!

This week the Michigan State University Extension, Michigan Sea Grant, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, & Saginaw Bay Walleye club hosted their yearly Saginaw Bay Youth Fishing Camp at the Bay City State Recreation Area. Participants learned various fishing skills, how to spot invasive species, & even how to clean a fish! This camp is aimed towards getting our youth outdoors and making life-long anglers out of them. Special thanks to all of the groups that helped to put this event on and to those who attended the camp!

The Saginaw Bay Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area - CISMA & Michigan State University Extension teamed up on July 8th to help stop the spread of invasive species in Bay County through the thorough cleaning of boats after they exited the Saginaw Bay at the Linwood Beach Marina & Campground. The event was a great success and we would like to thank both groups for helping to inform the public about the dangers of invasive species to our ecosystem.
