Lafayette House is a private, not-for-profit organization serving women, children and families in southwest Missouri. Lafayette House was founded in 1978 in Joplin to provide safe shelter and support services for women and children who were victims of domestic violence.

In 1982 Lafayette House expanded its services to include alcohol and drug abuse treatment for women.

In March 1985 we opened a chald care center, the Pumpkin Patch, which is currently licensed by the state of Missouri for 59 children. Our staff provides specialized services to children from violent and/or chemically dependent families.

In September 2007 Lafayette House opened a resale shop, Second Chances. 100% of the store's profits go toward funding programs and services for women and children staying in our shelter or treatment facility. Clients are able to get items they need for their families at the store, free of charge.

Today Lafayette House offers behavioral health services to women, children and families in 21 counties in southwest Missouri. Through our Joplin facility and outreach office in Neosho, we focus on family violence, sexual assault, chemical addiction, child abuse and prevention. With a staff of 80 professionals, we serve over 1,500 people each year.
