History of Immaculate Conception High School Immaculate Conception High School opened its doors to fifteen freshmen in September of 1925. The birth of Immaculate Conception was the realization of its founder, Rev. Edward M. Farrel. Mother Mary Alexandrine, of the Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth, became the first principal of the high school, thus beginning a continued tradition of school support and supervision from the Sisters of Charity. In 2004, Immaculate Conception High School became a private school governed by a Board of Trustees. The student body is comprised of young people from many communities in Essex, Passaic, and Union counties. Immaculate has always been centrally located in Montclair, one block from Bloomfield Avenue and convenient to bus and train routes. The Charism of the Sisters of Charity remains an important part of the daily Life at ICHS.
