Lahaina Restoration Foundation
Lahaina Restoration Foundation (LRF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that was chartered in 1962. Its purpose is to cooperate with all community-oriented interests in an effort to restore, protect and preserve the physical and cultural legacies of Lahaina, Maui, the first capital of the Kingdom of Hawai‘i. Its vision is that Lahaina’s prominent place in Hawai‘i’s history and rich cultural traditions are celebrated and, through authentic preservation of significant sites, buildings and artifacts, its story is shared.
LRF manages and protects more than a dozen major historic structures in Lahaina. LRF maintains several collections of artifacts, manuscripts, maps, photographs, logs and other materials representative of Lahaina's rich history. These collections are available to the public and researchers by request.
LRF operates the Baldwin Home Museum, Hale Pa‘i Printing Museum, Lahaina Heritage Museum, Wo Hing Temple Museum, Plantation Museum, Old Lahaina Prison, and Pioneer Mill Smokestack exhibits, which are open to the public daily. Other structures under LRF protection are the Masters Reading Room, Hale Aloha, Seamen's Hospital, Agawa Home and Lahaina Lighthouse. LRF also oversees maintenance of public parks and spaces in Lahaina's historic districts. LRF maintains the Lahaina Historic Trail interpretive signs and produces a brochure-map of the Lahaina Historic Trail.
