The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue is a combination department with more than 290 uniformed, full-time personnel supplemented by a contingent of volunteers under the direction of Fire Chief Jason Monk. The Division, whose volunteer service dates back to 1884, provides fire protection, advanced life support emergency medical services, community risk reduction, and environmental protection for the city's 137,000+ residents. Hampton has 11 fire stations, one of which is located at NASA Langley Research Center, strategically located throughout its 53-square mile border. Six of the stations also have volunteer fire companies and four have volunteer rescue squads.
