EAMC opened as an 81-bed hospital in 1952 and was called Lee County Hospital until 1982 when it became East Alabama Medical Center. The hospital is owned by the East Alabama Healthcare Authority which has nine board members from throughout Lee County. Terry Andrus is the hospital's President/CEO, a position he has held since 1983.
