The Inn is a leading organization in the St. Vrain Valley providing safe shelter and stability for homeless individuals and families on the path to self-sufficiency. We provide supportive housing and services that empower residents to lead sustainable and self-sufficient lives.
The Inn is a leading organization in the Boulder County/St. Vrain Valley providing safe shelter and stability for a very diverse homeless population which includes single and two parent families, teen parents, individuals exiting domestic violence relationships, persons with physical and/or mental disabilities, single adults, seniors and teens unable to live at home. Residents of The Inn are low income making < 30% Area Median Income (AMI); most of those we serve earn 14 – 20% AMI. In conjunction with our referring agencies, we provide supportive housing; empowering our residents to lead sustainable and self-sufficient lives through our general program operations. This is done through ongoing case management and on-site trainings; all while living in a safe and supportive environment.
Residents from the Transitional Program, Permanent Supportive, Emergency Housing and Student Incentive Program (SIP) are all supported with the same opportunities within the general program. The largest population of those served at the Inn is housed in time-limited, affordable housing apartment units under a minimum of 50 units of Transitional Housing. Eligible families and individuals are referred from 12 partner agencies representing a diverse population of homeless and those at-risk. Identified families and individuals receive safe and affordable housing for a period of time up to 24 months. The majority of those are working families who are seeking stability in their lives. All households pay one-third of their gross income towards rent.
In coordination with Longmont Housing Authority, the Inn supports elderly and disabled individuals with a long term or permanent supportive housing option under Permanent Supportive Housing. Residents housed in these Single Resident Occupancy (SRO) housing units pay 30% of adjusted fixed income towards rent and utilities. This site-based voucher program is for single adults 55 and over and/or disabled.
The Inn recognizes the need to temporarily house families and individuals who are in crisis. The agency will set aside four single rooms (to be housed within 48 hours of an identified need) as Emergency Housing. The Inn collaborates with our referring partners to select eligible and disadvantaged candidates.
The Inn’s Student Incentive Program (SIP) offers at-risk, homeless youth, at no cost a safe, stable, and supportive environment that allows them to stay in school focused on their studies. Students enrolled in the program must maintain a full-time course schedule with grades and attendance in good standing. In addition to no cost housing, students are connected with the resources needed to keep them in school and provided with guidance to influence healthy lifestyle choices and learn the skills necessary to live independently and self-sufficiently.
In 2010, The Inn added the Education Center program for school-aged children living at The Inn children; grades K – 12. The Education Center is held onsite at the 230 Coffman St. location where most students reside. It operates two days a week and provides after-school enrichment and tutoring in a positive, healthy setting. The goal is to strengthen their foundation for learning, advance educational success, and preparation for effective future learning. In addition, resident youth are provided with enrichment opportunities that build community. The broader community is engaged in supportive activities such as back to school backpack and clothing drives and holiday celebrations and giving programs.
The Inn is uniquely positioned to offer hands-on case management to our residents. Case managers establish case specific goals and action plans with each resident and work to empower them to achieve their goals. Each Inn building location has a satellite office staffed by a case manager during day and evening hours at least twice a week to ensure regular follow up and support can occur without a transportation barrier. These locations double as space to host on-site trainings and other activities such as on-site after-school homework help and resident meetings. In this way, the Inn builds a supportive relationship with residents through frequent engagement.
Training components of the program are selected to benefit the current population of residents and are offered in group or one-to-one settings. Residents are encouraged to participate in the many community resources made available. Onsite trainings include, but are not limited to: Life skills Personal Financial Management, Post-Secondary Education Planning, Job Readiness and Resume Writing, Tenant /Landlord Rights and Responsibilities, Nutrition, and other Life Skills classes coordinated by The Inn Case Managers.
