Del-Co Water Company, Inc. was formed in 1969 when Ralph Scott, Timothy McNamara, and Gerald Solt foresaw the need to have a dependable supply of quality drinking water in southern Delaware County for supplying the initial customers and to provide for future development. These men organized community meetings and recruited a group of concerned citizens to form the company and hire a consulting engineer. With their leadership, the company was able to obtain low interest loans from the Farmers Home Administration and build a one million gallon per day treatment plant with two hundred miles of distribution mains to serve approximately two thousand customers. From their initial work arousing community interest and securing government loans, and with their continued leadership, Del-Co Water has grown into the largest rural water system in the State of Ohio. Del-Co Water was conceived as a community effort to provide water as a not-for-profit corporation owned by the water consumers.
