“My first Al-Anon #meeting was the one I didn't attend. I sat in my car outside the building and watched the #people going inside. They were smiling and hugging each other. I was here because my best #friend had told me that I would find help in #AlAnon, and even #serenity. But I couldn't go inside. I went home to my empty apartment and to the #pain, #anger, and #sadness within me. The following evening, I went back to the meeting, and this time I gathered enough courage to go inside." “I finally gathered enough courage to go into the meeting," “Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism 2017" p. 24 goo.gl/s0LjWw. #Alateen #recovery #alcoholism #alcoholic #alcoholics #drinks #familydisease #relapse #sobriety #support #12Steps #addiction #sober #drug #problems #alcohol #AlcoholAwarenessMonth

“After years of wear and tear, I began drowning in despair as active alcoholism took its toll on my family. My husband's drinking was out of control. Our sons' failed marriages were directly related to their own addictions, and we had full legal custody of two grandchildren, due to our middle son's irresponsible choices." “Step Twelve: Planting the seeds of service," “The Forum" December 2016 The Al-Anon program can be applied to many different situations and relationships. In Al-Anon's April 2017 issue of “The Forum" magazine, a member shares: “I grew up being the people pleaser in the family. I knew I was expected not to complain or express any negative emotions. Everyone thought I was always happy and positive. I earned my nickname of ‘Smiley' because I hid everything behind a smile. Getting straight As, having good organizational skills, and showing an ability to get along with everyone was my way of controlling life so that there would be no need to show emotions. “In [Al-Anon,] I began to look at my past and my part in how I lived my life. The alcoholics were gone but I was here and not yet free of them. I needed to learn to relax and express my feelings and emotions. I needed to learn to make real friends. Most importantly, I wanted to take back my life." “Step Four: Seeing that I do matter," “The Forum" April 2017 Have you hit your bottom? Find the support you need in a local Al-Anon meeting.
