Unity Christian Church

The Unity Christian Church (UCC) was founded in May 2001 when the Lord commissioned Pastor Smith A. Atwater, his wife Merrian, and their family (daughters Kenyetta and Gina, and son Josh) to plant a new ministry in Fayette County. God's focus for the UCC ministry was to: (1) teach the Gospel message with simplicity, explaining God's provision for victorious living for every Christian and the awesome power of the Cross; (2) develop a family-oriented ministry where the "love of Christ" would be demonstrated in the church and the community; and (3) help to "unite the Body of Christ" by establishing relationships and fellowships with other Christ-centered ministries, without regard to race, creed, color, or denomination. To highlight this assignment, the Lord instructed Pastor Atwater to call the ministry "Unity".

The inaugural service for the Unity Christian Church was held on May 6, 2001 at the Abundant Life Worship Center (ALWC) in Tyrone, Georgia. Weekly services continued at the Abundant Life Worship Center until July 2003 when the Holy Spirit birthed a strong desire for Unity to obtain a church home. As an interim step, in September 2003 UCC moved the weekly worship services to the Wyndham Conference Center in Peachtree City, Georgia. The location for Unity's services had changed but Unity's mission and message of fellowship among the brethren remained the same.

In July 2005, God orchestrated a meeting between UCC and the Cornerstone Bible Church. Because of God's favor and Cornerstone's desire for "the right ministry" (as revealed by the Holy Spirit) to assume ownership of their church campus, UCC and Cornerstone reached an agreement that was truly ordained by the Lord! UCC purchased its first church home (located at 426 Rivers Road, Fayetteville, GA), and the inaugural worship service at this location was held on October 2, 2005 with family and friends in attendance.

UCC is not only a church with an inspirational beginning, it is also a ministry with a dynamic vision to represent Jesus in every area of ministry. Following are seven statements that reflect a portion of Unity's current vision: (1) equip members of the Unity Christian Church to effectively communicate the Word of God and to live victorious lives through Jesus Christ our Lord; (2) establish active fellowships among Christian believers, without regard to race, creed, color, or denomination; (3) enhance and/or develop outreach ministries and programs to evangelize the lost and encourage the "broken hearted", (4) provide the means for exercising and developing spiritual gifts for the edification of the body, (5) support missions and evangelism initiatives at home and abroad, (6) coordinate and/or establish activity ministries for the Youth and Senior Citizens within the Community, and (7) establish a Resource Center for the Community.
Unity is a living example of what happens when the awesome blessings of God are bestowed upon His faithful people. "To God Be the Glory for the Things He has Done!"
