Are you a high school student interested in improving your French speaking abilities? Do you like pizza, and board games? Then join us this Saturday for our Les Djeunes event, where you will be able to engage with other French speakers your age! This event is coming up quickly on Saturday (2/25), so make sure to let us know if you will be in attendance! We will play some fun interactive games en français while enjoying some delicious snacks and some PIZZA. We invited a group of French High School students to participate with us. Alliance Française and the French-American Heritage Foundation of Minnesota present the reception of author Joseph Amato, who will discuss his book: Paths and Roads to Becoming French, and a Book-Loving Métis (in English). $10 Admission to this talk in la Grande Salle For tickets, visit the link or give us a call at 612 332 0436 to RSVP What is means to become French is the topic of Professor Amato’s talk. In his talk Amato will puzzle out his three of his paths to becoming French: how as a young man studies took him to the Université of Laval, where he learned to think and write about varied French cultures; then how as a researcher he discovered his own family roots in Nova Scotia and his family’s expulsion to Massachusetts and its migration to Maine and then Wisconsin; and finally how today he is becoming a Minnesota Métis with a fictional creation, called Buffalo Man. Come explore your own paths to becoming French through birth, language, travel, and books. About the author: Joseph A. Amato received his B.A. in History from the University of Michigan in 1960, his M.A. in History from the Université de Laval, Québec, in 1963 and his Ph.D. in History from the University of Rochester in 1970. He taught French history, and wrote his first book, of twenty five, on twentieth-century French-Catholic Personalism. In 1969 Amato began teaching at Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) in Marshall, Minnesota where he was a founder and chair of the History Department. He has written twenty-five books on an array of topics (as you can find on his website, JosephAAmato.com) and given countless talks on a variety of subjects in the region and nation. Each March, more than 33 million people around the world celebrate Le Mois de la Francophonie, a global initiative led by the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie to highlight the diversity of French-speaking cultures. This year, for the month of Francophonie, Alliance Française invites you to a Celebration of Senegal!
