Guardian Care Nursing & Rehab Ctr

In observance of Nursing Home Week, May 8 - 14, 2016, Guardian Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the national-award winning nursing home and Orlando’s first black hospital, will host a Kick-Off & Community Open House on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 11:30 – 1:00 Guardian Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 2500 West Church Street, Orlando, FL 32805 featuring free food and refreshments, a balloon release in honor of the residents, volunteers and employees of the facility and Guardian Care historical exhibit. The event is free and open to the public.

The event will educate and enlighten the community on the benefits of long-term care and the importance of nursing homes in Orlando and across the nation during the annual celebration of National Nursing Home Week. This event also encourages residents, families and others to engage with their loved ones, family members and neighbors. In fact, everyone can get set to enjoy the week as the American Health Care Association (AHCA) has designated it as the week to celebrate with the theme of “It’s a Small World, with a Big Heart.” The facility was originally built by Florida Hospital in 1958 on land donated by the late Dr. Phillips and was operated as an acute hospital, until 1964, for the delivery of medical services to the black community. In 1964 the South Atlantic Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists assumed its ownership and operation as a nursing home until 1968. It was at this juncture that Guardian Care, Inc., a 501(c)(3) corporation was formed to continue caring for the community’s long-term nursing needs.

From their humble beginnings, today, Guardian Care is a 120 bed skilled nursing home facility located on the corner of John Young Parkway and Church Street. Guardian Care, the recipient of the Bronze and Silver Quality Award, offers skilled rehabilitation services including Speech, Occupational and Physical Therapy. The facility proudly boasts a memory care unit that specializes in providing care and services to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other related forms of Dementia.
