With over 120 students, the Skibbereen Farm lesson program is one of the largest riding programs in Western New York. Our philosophy is to keep things fun and relaxed while teaching all our students a sense of responsibility and understanding through helping to care for an animal. We keep things informal so that our students feel confident and free to ask questions, and our instructors are extremely patient and willing to go as slow or as fast as each student feels comfortable.
Beginning students start with half-hour private lessons and will learn not only riding skills, but also basic horse care including grooming, leading, the use of different tack and how to tack up and down. As students progress in their riding skills, they will have the opportunity to advance to hour group lessons where they will make more friends while learning more and more about riding and how to care for horses. NinnychangedOur large lesson program allows us to provide options on many levels for all our different students. With over 12 lesson horses to choose from, we can provide all our students with the horse of their dreams, horses they never imagined, and everything in between. All of our horses are safe and willing, and each has his or her own personality that lesson program director Molly Hannon can match up with each individual student's personality. We have easy, slow horses for the more timid student, and more challenging horses for the more advanced. Once we get to know you, we can be sure to find you a horse you will definitely fall in love with.

In addition to having many quality horses to choose from, having over 120 students also means that our group lessons can be easily structured to combine students of similar ages and abilities. We have group lessons with students who are just beginning to jump courses to students who are working on more advanced riding skills. We also cannot forget of course our favorite Tuesday evening "Wonder Class," our group of older ladies who may enjoy themselves more than all our younger students combined. Students in group lessons always have fun and tend to make friendships that go beyond just meeting once a week at the barn.
Lessons are offered six days a week, including on weekends, and times are very flexible so that students can fit lessons into even the busiest of schedules.
Skibbereen encourages all students in the lesson program to get involved as much as they desire. Whether a student wants to come once a week for a lesson just to get away from the pressures of life, or he or she wants to get more involved,biggybrushing1 we can accommodate. Students can take lessons as many times a week as they desire, and more advanced students are offered many different lease options. All students also have many opportunities to horse show throughout the year, and summer camp is always a fun option for younger riders who wish to learn more about horses and how to care for them. Finally, for students who want to get extremely involved and wish to show on the A-circuit, Chrissie Hannon is always willing to take on new show students.
So no matter who you are or what you wish to get out of lessons, Skibbereen Farm can help. We can't wait to meet you, so contact Molly Hannon at 648-1908 to set up a lesson time, or stop by anytime during normal business hours.
