Happy Birthday to the American Legion!!

American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Ohio shared American Legion Auxiliary National President's photo.
As part of Goal 3 of the ALA’s Centennial Strategic Plan, and in an effort to promote leadership skills throughout the American Legion Auxiliary, I will be recognizing women for having implemented or having displayed leadership qualities that help us build a strong organization. This shout out goes to PALMER-ROBERTS ALA UNIT 214 in Willoughby, Ohio! When a local radio station in Willoughby announced that they were looking for groups to host shows on WINT Integrity Radio 1330am or 101.5fm, Palmer-Roberts ALA Unit 214 decided they would explore the possibility of doing a show about who we are, what we do, and why we matter. After speaking with the station, however, their unit determined this wasn’t an option as it required sponsors which unit 214 could not afford. Then, after much consideration, WINT decided they wanted their unit to do a weekly show entitled “They Sacrificed for Us.” Palmer-Roberts ALA Unit 214 will now be live every Tuesday at 9pm! The co-hosts of the show are Sue and Bob Fratino, ALA Unit 214 president and SAL squadron vice commander respectively. The inaugural show took place March 7 with special guests ALA Ohio Department President Denise Conrad and ALA Ohio Past Department President Martha Setlock. Membership eligibility requirements were discussed as well as how to go about joining our great organization. Our mission of serving veterans, their families, educating citizens, mentoring youth, and promoting patriotism were also part of the program. Denise and Martha, who attended Washington DC Conference, spoke about The American Legion’s Legislative Agenda. Denise’s special project, Ohio’s Military Assistance Fund, was introduced to listeners and call-ins for donations were encouraged. Their second show is tonight, March 14, at 9pm. Listen to archived shows of “They Sacrificed for Us” here: http://wintradio.com/archived-programs-now/. Join me in recognizing these #ALARockStars!
