Harry's is a family owned and operated business. Harry S. and wife Magoline H. Tosh began the operation in 1955. After World War II, Harry was an FHA & VA Real-estate Appraiser. He also was a builder at the time and he was having difficulty in getting his building materials from the local dealers. This is where he got the idea to start Harry's Building Materials. In 1960, their son Harry R. Tosh (Bobby) began work full time and became manager in 1964. In 1974, Bobby and his wife Hazel purchased his father's interest in the business and began a partnership with his mother, Magoline H. Tosh. During that time, the business was incorporated with Bobby Tosh as President, Johnny R. Sanders (who joined in 1964) as Vice President, and Magoline H. Tosh as Secretary-Treasurer until her retirement in 2003. Bobby and Hazel have three children; Tammy Tosh Garcia, Harry R. Tosh II (Robby), and Teresa Tosh Langley. In 2014 Robby was named President of the company, Tammy worked in the Rusk store until she received her teaching degree, and Teresa is currently Secretary-Treasurer of the corporation. From one small hardware store in Rusk that opened in 1955, Bobby has expanded Harry's Building Materials, Inc. to five store. The locations include Jacksonville in 1983, Troup in 1990, Nacogdoches in 1992. The company now has over thirty delivery trucks, a door unit manufacturing facility, "Your Home" by Harry's Show Room located in Tyler, Insulating Business, and over one-hundred employees.
"Not many small businesses make it in business for Sixty plus years", says Bobby Tosh, CEO of Harry's Building Materials, Inc. Bobby believes that one of the main reasons for the success of the company is the ability of his key people to respond to the tasks at hand. "None of us are afraid of hard work! We do whatever it takes to get the job done. Our slogan says "Nobody beats our price with our Service!".
Bobby also pointed out that a number of his key people have been with the company a long time. Executive Vice President, Johnny R. Sanders joined the company in 1964. Senior Vice President, Harvey Merrill III and Vice President David Slaton joined the company in 1976. President Harry R. Tosh II (Robby) came on board in 1982, and Secretary-Treasurer Teresa Tosh Langley started in 1990.
