June 19, 1960 - Inaugural running of the World 600, still the longest and one of the most prestigious on the NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule.

1961 – David Pearson earns his first Sprint Cup Series win in the Coca-Cola 600.

1967 – Buddy Baker earns his first Sprint Cup Series win in the Bank of America 500.

1977 – Charlotte Motor Speedway became the first race track to host elaborate pre-race shows.

1984 - Charlotte Motor Speedway became the only sports facility in America to offer year-round living accommodations when it built 40 condominiums high above turn one.

1988 – Opened The Speedway Club, the first exclusive members-only private club to be constructed at a motorsports facility.

1992 - Charlotte Motor Speedway became the first modern superspeedway to host night auto racing.

1994 - CMS added a new $1 million, 20,000-square-foot Sprint Cup garage area.

1994 – Jeff Gordon earns his first Sprint Cup Series win in the Coca-Cola 600.

1995 – Bobby Labonte earns his first Sprint Cup Series win in the Coca-Cola 600.

2000 - The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a state-of-the-art, four-tenths-mile clay oval was completed. The stadium-style facility has nearly 14,000 seats and plays host to Dirt Late Models, Modifieds, Sprint Cars, Monster Trucks and the prestigious World of Outlaws World Finals.

2000 – Matt Kenseth earns his first Sprint Cup Series win in the Coca-Cola 600.

2002 – Jamie McMurray earns his first Sprint Cup Series win in the Bank of America 500.

2006 – Charlotte Motor Speedway became the first motorsports facility to host the world premiere of a major motion picture, the Disney/Pixar film “CARS”.

2007 – Casey Mears earns his first Sprint cup Series win in the Coca-Cola 600.

2008 - Added the Bellagio of drag strips to its complex with the completion of zMAX Dragway. The state-of-the-art facility has been praised as the finest drag racing facility in the world by both fans and competitors alike, and opened to a sellout crowd of more than 30,000 for the NHRA Nationals.

2009 – David Reutimann earns his first Sprint Cup Series win in the Coca-Cola 600.

2011 – Charlotte Motor Speedway became the home of the largest HD video screen in the world, measuring 16,000 square feet. The screen sits between turns 3 and 4 along the back stretch, and provides added visibility to fans sitting along the front stretch.
