At Garfield Park Community Worship Center, you will discover a spirit-filled, loving community sharing a journey in the way of Jesus Christ. It is easier to tell how the Garfield Park Community Worship Center came to be than to say exactly when its existence became a reality. The generally accepted idea is that it came into being on September 18, 1896.


Garfield Park Community Worship Center today is a church that is cherished with fond affection by its members, not because it is perfect, but because it has been and now is a place of spiritual ministry and fellowship.

We offer a number of ministries that nurture our faith and also reach out in Christian love to our community and world. We have weekly bible classes to study The Word and where we examine local, national, world and personal concerns in their spiritual context.

Other ministries, such as our Fellowship Network, KidsChurch, Youth for Christ, DAT Youth Ministries, Victory Walk Prison Ministry, Tutorial Program and Homework Lab, Scholarship Ministry, Vessels of Glory women’s ministry, boys and men’s ministry, Pathways to Victory (members’ orientation), In HIS Image (School of Ministry) courses to develop and prepare one for ministry, Couples, Singles, New Media (Telecast, Video- and Audio-Tapes), Social Outreach, Family Counseling, Christian Peer Counseling, Bread of Life Missions, and New Residential Development Program are focused by our strong commitment to our members and the local community. For more than 25 years, we operated a pre-school day care center from the lower level of our church. Due to a growing number of ministries that required additional operating space, we suspended its operation in 2001. Many individuals in need stop by and are aided by our church through its Good Fellowship and Kingsmen Ministry.

The Ministerial Staff, Deacons, Deaconesses, Missionaries, Christian Education Instructors, Ushers/Care Response Team, Altar Guild, Ambassadors, Evangelism/Crusade Board and other auxiliaries are ever mindful of the significance of their Christian duties. They strive to be good role models and to witness their faith. Our Music Ministry is also outstanding in their service.

Among our membership are many families and individuals who have devoted their consistent, earnest efforts and services to the church, some for more than 40 years.

The future outlook for Garfield Park Community Worship Center is most encouraging. Our leaders and members, in the past and still in the present, have shown their ability to pray, to sacrifice and to work. With this attitude of mind and heart, and the Lord’s blessing, no task can be too great and no result too difficult to realize.
