TABC is a self-funded agency, required by law to collect enough in fines, fees and surcharges (from the businesses TABC regulates) to cover the cost of operating the agency. No public tax dollars are spent to fund agency operations or programs.
In addition to the fines, fees and surcharges collected to fund the agency, TABC collects in excess of $200 million which goes directly into the state's General Revenue Fund. this money helps to finance the state's public schools, local governments, health and human services, research and other services provided to all Texans.
