We are Literacy Volunteers of America - (LVA) - Monroe County, Inc. We believe the ability to read, write and communicate in English is critical to personal freedom. We provide free, confidential, one-to-one and small group literacy instruction to any Monroe County resident who would like to improve literacy skills. For the past 26 years we have helped 4,250 students achieve personal goals through increased literacy skills. Student goals include improving reading and writing skills, improving English communication skills, obtaining employment or better employment, learning to communicate in English with one's children's teachers, opening a bank account, obtaining a driver's license, obtaining citizenship and achieving self sufficiency. We are a not-for-profit 501C3 organization. We operate almost entirely with volunteers who work with students for a minimum of two hours each week to improve skills. If you know of someone who needs help or would like to volunteer please call 305-294-4352, visit our website at or email info@
