EXCELth is dedicated to improving the health of underserved communities in New Orleans and Baton Rouge through the provision of quality, affordable primary care services that includes patients and their families as key players in their health care decisions.
Founded in 1991, governed by a consumer board of directors. EXCELth is funded as a Community Health Center by the Bureau of Primary Health Care, Department of Health and Human Services and is designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). EXCELth operates the EXCELth Primary Care Network. This health center receives HHS funding and has Federal Public Health Service (PHS) deemed status with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including medical malpractice claims, for itself and its covered individuals.
Presently, the EXCELth Primary Care Network includes three fixed health centers and a family dental center serving Orleans Parish and a behavioral health program serving East Baton Rouge Parish. The goal of these health centers is to be a "medical home" - the provider of choice for area residents, regardless of income and other barriers.
