The Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Arkansas began 35 years ago when congress, recognizing the needs of the elderly, provided funding for the beginning of the graying of America by passing the Older Americans Act. This act instituted the Area Agencies on Aging across the nation. Since that time, the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Arkansas has grown from a young agency struggling to meet the needs of the elderly to one that is a solid leader in aging services. However, meeting the needs of the ever-increasing senior population while overcoming cuts in government funding remains a real challenge for our organization.
AAANWA’s aging services are made possible through a mix of federal, state and community support. We also receive support through donations and charitable gifts primarily through the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Arkansas Foundation.
