So we've got this stack of over 150 letters from people whose lives are made better by the developmental disabilities services system... They all talk about how important services like social recreation, camp, and respite are to them. Graciela says "this is how we meet other clients and get to see things and places that we wouldn't normally get to do." Janice shares that "for some of use, social rec was our only way to socialize." Will these critical services be restored? The ball's in your court, Conference Committee! The state Budget is being finalized, and only a few open items remain. ARCA strongly supports the restoration of camp and social recreation, and lifting the respite cap. Whether blended or separate, these services support families. We also hope the Budget Conference will approve the $17M for service coordinators. This funding will help our system better focus on tailoring unique solutions to individual needs. Lastly, safety net services can fill critical gaps for people with a developmental disability and a mental health need. But to do this, vendor rates have to be high enough to sustain services, and attract providers. That means they can't be tied to median rates!
