5 7 17 Facing the Charcoal Fire

God is amazing!! Sometimes He chooses to return us to the very point of our call, our hurt, our loss of hope - in order to show us His love for us, HIs continued call for us and that with Jesus hope never dies. Peter decided to go fishing after seeing Jesus 2 times post crucifixion (John 21). Jesus comes up on shore (unrecognized) and says "catch anything?" "No" "Put your net on the right side of the boat." "Ok." They catch 153 large fish. This reminds Peter of his original call (Luke 5). He had fished all night. Jesus came up teaching a crowd - needed a boat to get some space from the crowd. Peter puts out a little ways in his boat. After teaching Jesus says put your net down. Peter did not want to but listened. There were so many fish another boat had to come bring in all the fish. Peter said "leave me for I am a sinful man." This time Peter remembers his denial. After swimming ashore following the great catch of fish, Peter finds Jesus at a Charcoal fire. (John 21) Only two times do we find a "fire of coals" in the New Testament. At the trial of Jesus where Peter denied Jesus and here. Peter has to face the Charcoal fire. Jesus says "Do you love (Agape) me more than these?" This is not do you love me more than the other disciples do. This is saying do you love me more than that boat, that net, the water, your old way of life? Do you love me unconditionally enough to leave your past and follow me? Peter finally says "you know all things, you know I love you." "Feed My Sheep." After facing the Charcoal fire, Jesus helps Peter regain his focus, to find forgiveness for his failings, and a renewed calling to work the mission. There are Sheep to be fed. I am praying that our churches are a place where people are challenged to return to their charcoal fire. Jesus is waiting. He was to help us regain our focus, find forgiveness for our failings, healing from our hurts, and renewed calling to Kingdom work. There are sheep to be fed... Have a great SON Day and may it be about the SON...
