At Whitinsville Christian School, we believe that a complete education includes the academic, spiritual, personal, social, creative, and physical development of our students. While we are an academic institution, fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, we are fully concerned for the development of our students’ personal, social, physical and spiritual lives as well. How do we foster the spiritual development of our students?

Our prayer is that our efforts to foster the spiritual development of our students are in conjunction with what is already happening in our students’ homes with their parents and in their churches. The parents and the churches must be the primary core of our students’ spiritual development. We desire to "come along side" parents and churches and help to support that spiritual development. That “coming along side” may involve numerous activities and approaches.

-Prayer for our students and with our students is a daily occurrence in our classrooms. Teachers lift up their students in prayer both individually and as a group. We lead students in prayer and encourage and give opportunities for students to pray as well. Teachers also pray that as they teach their subject areas from a Christian perspective, they will help build the students’ own world and life view.

-Bible reading and Bible study are part of our curricular and extra curricular opportunities. Instruction directly from God’s written Word takes place at every grade level from pre-school to grade 12. More direct Bible studies are also available for students who desire this in high school. Similar studies have also been available in the middle school with the help of parent volunteers. A devotional time is also set aside usually in the morning as the first class begins. This takes on different formats depending on the age of the students but usually includes prayer, a teaching from the Bible and possibly singing especially in the elementary grades.

-Chapels offer a time of worship and instruction from the Bible as well. In the high school they are offered on a weekly schedule and in the elementary and middle school twice each month. Chapels take on numerous forms but may include a message from the Bible, singing or music ministry, prayers, and possibly drama, liturgical dance, or testimonies.

-Serving others and doing service projects for and in our community are an excellent way to train our students that we can become Christ’s hands and feet when we reach out and help in Christ’s name. Words spoken and actions taken for self are empty but when done in Christ’s name are lasting and have eternal value.

-Teaching the subject material from a Christian perspective and with a Christian World and life view is as much an integral part of the spiritual development of a student as is the prayer, Bible reading, devotions, and chapels. In so doing we are attempting to instill in our students that their spiritual self is not a separate part of their lives that they deal with in church, in chapels, or when praying. All of our lives are spiritual, and as our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, all of life is to be lived to the glory of God.

The task before us is awesome and humbling. We covet the daily prayers of everyone from the school community as we partner with all of you in the complete education of your children.
