As we head into the holiday season, Advent Group Ministries is gearing up for Thanksgiving and Christmas. One of our main goals is to provide a family environment for our residents. This includes having a big Thanksgiving meal with a recreational outing for the kids. Christmas is an even bigger event for the kids. We take them to a Christmas tree park to cut down a tree and decorate it in the home while having treats. The week of Christmas, we have a Christmas party with Santa Claus bringing gifts for our kids to open. The day is rounded out by the staff taking the kids to a restaurant for dinner and ice skating or to the Christmas light show in Los Gatos. A former client who now is a volunteer, explained to us recently that having a Christmas party with Advent was the first joy he can remember associating with Christmas. The family atmosphere of the tree cutting and trimming, the opening of gifts, and the evening of dinner and play is a memory that he cherishes into his adulthood. The Christmas spirit that he learned with Advent is being passed along to his daughter. If you would like to help Advent to brighten the holiday season for our kids, please let us know. We have many programs to gather gifts for. Each year, we provide gifts for close to three dozen children. Part of this process is to be able to provide gifts for parents to give to their children. Many of our parents deal with stress and guilt over not being able to provide gifts for their kids. If your are inspried to help, please let us know. There are many ways to help....the next time you are at Safeway or Walmart shopping, consider buying a $25 gift card for the kids....If you would like to complete a child's wish list, let us know....If you would like to send a gift card from the Cheesecake Factory, you would be helping a child to have a restaurant meal with staff and "new" family members.....a gift card to a Christmas Tree farm....Every gift card or donation will help to re-define the childhood of a client who is in need of safe love. "I never new I could have fun when I wasn't high." Quote from a former client who lost both his parents to drug overdoeses. If you would like to help....dmoretti@adventgm.org 408-281-0708 ext. 101

This weekend, Advent Group Ministries had three new volunteers join us in our mission to help teens and families reclaim their lives and hopes for the future. Thank you Reverend Kathy, Margie, and Michele. As a volunteer, you will spend time with our clients in a friendship environment. Once a week, we have family night at the Nest which is our home for young girls who have been sexually exploited. Family night is a chance for ladies to come into the home to prepare and enjoy a meal with the girls. A family dinner environment is a tremendous way to talk about the happenings of daily life. Opportunities to speak into the girls lives present often. After clean-up, the ladies and girls may play games, watch a movie, or just enjoy eachother's company in a safe environment. Healthy and safe relationships can begin with a meal and an attentive ear. If you are interested in joining our volunteer team, call Dave Moretti at 408-281-0708 ext. 101. Advent was given permission to post a testimony from a former client. Thank you, Chris for allowing us to share your story. We feel honored to be a part of Chris' journey to finding and maintaining sobriety. Advent wishes Chris and all of our clients the very best that God has to offer in life. My name is Chris P. I was in Advent Group Ministries from 1990 to 1992. It was a wonderful group home. It helped me to become the man I am today. The staff back then were wonderful, caring and seemed very educated. I'm not sure what would have happened to me if I didn't go there. Today I am sober and have a great career. I truly believe I owe alot of that to the people at Advent and of course God. They helped me find my potential and told me I was worthy of anything good that came my way. I wish I knew where they were today so I could thank them personaly. Thank you Advent for helping and teaching me to become a good man.
