First Congretational Ucc

First Congregational, was founded in 1872 becoming the first organized congregation within the city of Huntington. In 1957, First Congregational voted to become part of the newly formed denomination, the United Church of Christ, becoming First Congregational, United Church of Christ (FCUCC).
FCUCC has been on the ‘cutting edge’ of ‘peace and social justice’ issues throughout its history. In fact, First Congregational was the first church within city limits to integrate, call a female pastor, and call an openly gay pastor.

While FCUCC is the historic site of the first organized congregation in the City of Huntington, it is also one of the youngest having gone through a renewing and rebirthing process. In July of 2010, FCUCC made another historic step of growth and vitality by calling its "first ever" new church planter, Rev. Kay Albright. Rev. Albright joined the staff of FCUCC with the direction and intent of planting a new UCC congregation in Charleston, WV. After nearly 140 years, First Church "gave birth." In May of 2012, the Central Southeast Ohio Association of the Ohio Conference gathered for the first time at First Church and during this momentous occasion, our church plant, Bridges of Grace UCC, Charleston, WV. was granted full standing within the United Church of Christ.
