Resirkulere was formed to address the problem all operators are facing in every basin in North water management. Millions of barrels of fresh water are used to achieve the final product of a producing oil well. Millions of barrels to drill the well. Millions of barrels to fracture the formation. And tens of thousands of barrels of water to drill out the stage fracture plugs to enhance the production of the final product. Many operators will utilize a coiled tubing rig or a work-over (service) rig to drill out the stage fracture plugs following completion. This process traditionally requires pumping fresh water at rates of 3-10 bbls per minute through the course of the operation, with an equal or greater volume of “trash” water returning to surface. This “trash” water is an emulsified conglomerate of water, chemicals, sand, frac gels and oil. This mixture, along with the rates at which it is returned to surface separation equipment is not conducive to filtering techniques, and therefore reuse has not traditionally been feasible, until now.

While in North Dakota's Williston Basin in the renowned Bakken play, performing well flowback and well testing, it was observed that the amount of water being used during plug drillouts was exceptionally high. It was also observed that an enormous amount of oil, the sought after final product of the exploration companies, was being wasted during the process. After approaching several operators as to the reception that would be given to a new service line to eliminate some of this waste, and to minimize the water management during drill-outs, an idea was born.

With a strong background in separation techniques, a lot of ingenuity, and a little luck, the concept of the “Magic Tank” was born. This specialized separator is the backbone of what has since proven to be an exceptionally efficient method for addressing the matter of water management/reuse and oil retention all wrapped up in a single package.
