Charleston Water System provides clean drinking water to more than 112,000 accounts. We operate one water treatment plant and 1,800 miles of water mains.
We also provide sewer service (not stormwater drainage) to 52,000 accounts. Wastewater travels through 800 miles of pipes and 12 miles of deep tunnels to our Plum Island Wastewater Treatment Plant, which cleans an average of 19 million gallons of water a day and releases it into the Charleston Harbor.
Charleston Water System is committed to preventing pollution and improving the environment. We are certified under ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management.
