Ross Gay is the author of three books: Against Which; Bringing the Shovel Down; and Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, winner of the 2015 National Book Critics Circle Award and the 2016 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award. Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude is currently a nominee for the Hurston-Wright Legacy Award and a finalist for the Ohioana Book Award. Catalog was also a finalist for the 2015 National Book Award in Poetry, the Balcones Poetry Prize, and it was nominated for an NAACP Image Award. Ross is a founding board member of the Bloomington Community Orchard, a non-profit, free-fruit-for-all food justice and joy project. He has received fellowships from Cave Canem, the Bread Loaf Writer's Conference, and the Guggenheim Foundation. Ross teaches at Indiana University.

The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa has upgraded the main information board on the Bama Theatre marquee by converting to a digital LED screen. An official launch date will be announced the week of March 20, 2017. The digital marquee will display current and upcoming events and can be updated electronically. The organization was careful to maintain the historical integrity of the marquee façade during the process with the neon “BAMA” lettering and the chasing bulbs unaltered.
