Urban Neighborhood Services (UNS) was founded in 2004 by Coney Island resident, Mathylde non-profit organization was conceived by the founder as a vehicle to effect positive change and address social needs in the community, which had been historically under-served. During its first few years, UNS planned for future activities by holding focus groups and rap sessions with local residents in order to gain perspective on the compelling issues that matter most to the community.
In June of 2008, the agency moved into its first office space after offering a variety of grassroots programming on topics such health and wellness, academic achievement, police community relations,among other relevant subjects. It was soon propelled into a more prominent role in the community. The organization currently offers an array of important programs and services.
