Attention Salons: We have received reports of salons in Mankato, Minneapolis, and Lino Lakes receiving phone calls from individuals incorrectly portraying themselves as "Board inspectors" requesting to schedule an inspection for 4:00 that day and requesting a phone payment of $5.00 for the inspection. Please be aware that the Board does not request, or accept, phone payments and there is no $5.00 fee for an inspection. If you receive a suspicious call of this nature, please alert your local police department. If ever you would like to confirm the authenticity of a phone call from the Board, please call our office at 651-201-2742. Additionally, all Field Inspectors carry photo ID and identify themselves upon entry into a salon.

Our very first showcase goes to Riverland Cosmetology Department for their work with Project Community Connect! On January 26th, thirty students and their instructors, with a trailer full of styling chairs and supplies, trekked to Owatonna to provide free haircuts and manicures to people experiencing homelessness and displacement. The resource fair was organized by Steele County Habitat for Humanity and provided information on services related to food, transportation, legal matters, and health care. In three hours, the students completed 59 haircuts and 40 manicures, and there were still more people waiting to be pampered! These students and instructors were dedicated to making their new clients feel ready to take on the world, and they made it happen. To Riverland students and instructors: Congratulations and thank you for striving to make the world a more beautiful place! #MotivationMonday
